Innocent Victim Memorial Project

Rochester Against Intoxicated Driving, Inc. (R.A.I.D.) is pleased to announce it's plan to build a "Driving Under the Influence: Innocent Victims' Memorial". The memorial will stand as a testament to the devastation and pain that driving under the influence of alcohol and other drugs causes. The main purpose of the memorial will be to honor and remember innocent victims killed or injured by this senseless crime, providing victims and their families a unified opportunity to remember loved ones and share their personal loss.

R.A.I.D. also hopes that such a visible memorial will act as a deterrent so that people will make the right choice and not drive under the influence. The memorial could also be used by the criminal justice system, probation, community groups and area students as a place to see first hand the devastating consequences that driving under the influence has had on our community.

In addition to honoring innocent victims, the memorial will serve to underscore and highlight R.A.I.D.'s primary purpose: "to increase public awareness of the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol and other drugs" and to assist in educating the public about the impact here in our own community.

Over the last few months, R.A.I.D. has been working closely with County officials and has already received tentative approval for the memorial. R.A.I.D. hopes to raise the funds necessary for the memorial through donations and a series of fund-raising activities. R.A.I.D. is a not-for-profit, all volunteer organization, formed in 1978 with the primary purpose "to deter and prevent intoxicated driving through all available means". The organization is focused exclusively on local activities specific to the Greater Rochester Community. All tax-deductible donations go to services and programs that benefit our local community.

Membership in R.A.I.D. is open to all interested persons in the Greater Rochester area who are concerned with preventing intoxicated driving. For more information regarding R.A.I.D. or contribute to the memorial fund please contact please contact us.
