National
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Traffic Safety Facts 2005 reports that nationwide there were:
  • 16,885 alcohol-related fatalities (39% of total traffic fatalities for the year)
  • 254,000 alcohol-related personal injuries
New York State
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Traffic Safety Facts 2005 reports that in New York State there were:
  • 524 alcohol-related fatalities
  • 37% of motor vehicle fatalities were alcohol related
Monroe County
2005 Annual Report for The Monroe County Public Safety: STOP DWI program reports the following data for Monroe County:
  • 2873 DWI/DWAI arrests
  • 1783 convicted DWI offenders were under the supervision MC Office of Probation & Community Corrections
  • 751 offenders on Probation were identified as "high-risk"
In 2004 there were:
  • 247 alcohol-related motor vehicle crashes
  • 28 alcohol-related fatalities
  • 319 alcohol-related injuries
  • 63 alcohol-related fatalities & injuries involving teens ages 15-19
  • 347 of our community members, along with their families & friends, had their lives impacted by intoxicated driving
For 2005, preliminary data indicate the following:
  • 23 alcohol-related motor vehicle fatalities in Monroe County
  • 47% of all motor vehicle fatalities in Monroe County were alcohol-related
