Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks recognized six area youth as the winners of Monroe County’s 18th Annual STOP DWI Poster Contest. The winning entries were selected from 108 posters designed by high school students across the area.

It’s great to see that so many young people participated in this year’s contest. It demonstrates just how invested our young people are in our community and its future,” said Brooks. “On behalf of Monroe County, I thank them for helping us get the message out about the dangers of drinking and driving.”

The competition is divided into two categories, one for graphic arts students and the other for non-graphic arts students. A first, second and third place winner is selected for each category. First place winners receive $250 and public display of their poster on a professional outdoor billboard. Second place winners each receive $100 and third place winners receive $50.

This year’s first, second and third place winners in the Graphic Arts Students Category are:
·  First Place – Dominic Scalzo, 11th Grade, Eastern Monroe Career Center, “Life’s not a Game, Don’t Drink & Drive, Stop DWI.”
·  Second Place – Madelynn Annal, 12th Grade, Eastern Monroe Career Center, “Drive Sober, She Deserves It.”
·  Third Place – Kyle Taylor, 11th Grade, Eastern Monroe Career Center, “Welcome to a Dead End, Stop DWI.”

This year’s first, second and third place winners in the Non-Graphic Arts Students Category are:
·  First Place – Haley Stolt, 9th Grade, Our Lady of Mercy, “Not All Bars are Fun, Stop DWI."
·  Second Place – Kaitlin Graham, 9th Grade, Our Lady of Mercy, “Intoxication Can Alter Your Destination. Don’t Drink and Drive.”
·  Third Place – George Lumb, 12th Grade, Rush-Henrietta High School, “Don’t Test Your Luck on the Wheel of Fortune… Don’t Drink and Die.”

Since it was established 18 years ago, over 2,000 high school students from across Monroe County have participated in the poster contest. The panel of judges for this year’s contest was: Peggy Duffy, Monroe County STOP-DWI Coordinator; Ginny Satter, Principal Central Police Services Administrator; Leslie Shakespeare-Brogan, DWI Victim Advocate; and Jean Triest, Monroe County Traffic Safety Specialist.
